Warm Globe

A HOT TOPIC

Global Warming

The New Zealand Government has recognised that the global warming issue is a 'hot' topic, both nationally and internationally. They are planning to develop a policy package which may impact on many aspects of New Zealand society and economy in ways which may be perceived negatively by the public.

As a researcher, you have been employed by the Ministry for the Environment - Manatu Mo Te Taiao to write a report on the possible impact of global warming for New Zealand and other Pacific nations, and to make recommendations, with sound justification, for future policies and initiatives that the New Zealand Government should develop. Your information and reasoning needs to be robust enough to withstand strong criticism from the opposition and various interest groups.

Written Report Requirements

Your report will:

  • Describe the possible impact of global warming for New Zealand and other Pacific nations.
  • Explain the reasons why you think this is likely to happen.
  • Give recommendations for government policy changes and actions in response to the climate change issues you have identified.
  • Identify any opposing views for what you have described and recommended.
  • Expected length: at least 500 words, plus illustrations and diagrams.
Expected completion date: 2 June 2010.
Expected presentation: very high standard - neatly handwritten or word processed.
